Why won't the LINKcat Mobile app work on my Android tablet?

Currently the app does not work on Android tablets. Our software provider is working to resolve this problem.

Why is the LINKcat Mobile app asking for permission to use my device's camera?

The camera is used for the Scan a barcode feature. Some devices will ask for permission to use the camera when the app is installed. Other devices will not ask for permission, even if the device has a camera.

How do I use the Scan a barcode feature?

You can use this feature to scan ISBN barcodes on books. The app will scan the ISBN barcode and then search for the ISBN in LINKcat Mobile.

To scan a barcode, open the app, click on the ellipsis in the upper right-hand corner, and choose Scan a barcode from the drop-down menu. A window will open with a red line. Hold the device so your camera is taking a "picture" of the barcode and the red line is directly over the barcode. Keep the device flat and level. The entire barcode needs to be visible in the window in order to scan. Sometimes it is useful to slowly move the device away from the barcode (keeping it level and steady), and then slowly move it toward the barcode until it scans.

If you get an error message, try again. Sometimes the barcode is not recognized or the app times out while looking up the barcode. If there is no ISBN match in LINKcat, then the app will not find a LINKcat record.

You must have a camera on your mobile device to use this feature. If you do not have a camera, then you will not have the Scan a barcode option in the drop-down menu.

I have an iPod Touch 4th Generation. Why won't Scan a barcode work?

The camera on the iPod Touch 4th Generation is not strong enough to work with the barcode scanning feature.

When I use Scan a barcode, I get a message that the ISBN length is not correct.

Be sure that the numbers under the barcode match the ISBN. Some older books have a barcode for a UPC number that is separate from the ISBN. In this case, LINKcat Mobile is scanning the UPC, not the ISBN, so the number is not recognized by the software.

LINKcat Mobile is stuck on one screen. What do I do?

Click on the ellipsis in the upper right-hand corner and choose Clear all settings from the drop-down menu.

Why can't I sort my search results?

LINKcat Mobile is a simplified version of LINKcat, so some features that are in the full LINKcat may not be available.
